Do you have hyperlordosis causing back pain?

Do you have hyperlordosis?

Hyperlordosis is an exaggerated curvature of the lumbar spine, causing lower back pain and making your posture not adequate, leading to problems in your whole body.

hyperlordosis (1)

It can happen in all ages, in women and men, but quite rare in children. The good news is that there is treatment and it can be reversed.

In people with hyperlordosis you will notice that their lower belly will thrust forward and the bottom will stick out.

As it was mentioned before it can cause lower back pain and also neck pain! Yes, your whole body is connected, therefore if one area is “twisted” or “pulled” your whole body is going to be affected. The reason for this is because our body has a huge capacity to adapt to postural changes, so the rest of the body is going to compensate to try to recreate a “normal” posture, but the reality it is that your body is entering a deep stage of misalignment.

hyperlordosismuscles2Hyperlordosis usually happens due to the tightness of the muscles erector spinae, quadratus lumborum and hip flexors, in particular the iliopsoas. Theses muscles need stretching. The abdominal muscles are weak, these are: rectus abdominus, internal oblique and external oblique; others include the hamstrings and gluteus maximus. These muscles need strengthening.

Besides having weak core muscles, other conditions can contribute for your hyperlordosis, such as:

  • Obesity
  • Wearing high-heeled shoes for long periods
  • Spinal injury
  • Neuromuscular diseases
  • Sitting or standing for long periods

It is natural for pregnant women develop hyperlordosis due to the baby growth and weight, but it is imperial to strengthen the pelvic floor all the way through the pregnancy and after it start a postnatal program to recover the lost posture and strengthen the muscles weakened by the pregnancy.

If you feel pain, feel that your body is not correctly aligned, come for a postural examination with our chiropractors that will deliver the best treatment and get you back on track to start enjoying life again, go back to work without feeling pain and go back to do activities that you stopped because of your condition.

Chiropractors are qualified professionals to treat this any other condition related to the spine and posture, allow me to explain in a simplistic way. There is no age limit, they can treat from babies to elderly people. Remember: prevention is the best medicine, do not allow your body to reach an extreme stage of pain to seek help.
